Public Library “Njegoš" was born from the Knjaževac reading-room, founded in 1860. Since 1981., it is located in the building of the Cultural Centre. It has two local branches in Kalna and Minićevo.
Library now has 55,000 books, it has a lot of good fund of county literature, 20 different periodical publications, it organizes cultural and educational activities which are aimed to popularizing books and reading (literary readings, lectures, exhibitions, educational workshops, literary competitions).
Public Library “Njegoš" is part of the unified library and information system of the Republic of Serbia and a full-fledged member of library-computing systems Cobiss.sr.
At the beginning of 2007. the interior of the Library has been renovated thanks to funding from the National Investment Plan.
The library has three reading rooms with 35 reading seats, a computer system with four operating units, computer equipment which are designed to work with customers. All rooms are air-conditioned. Members of the libraries have free internet access to two computers.
In order to promote cultural values, the Library works closely with cultural institutions, schools and other professional libraries in the Municipality, as well as with libraries and institutions in the region.
